The Winnemucca Regional Raceway (WRR) was smoking last Friday night with 16 drivers tearing up the dirt track for the second-to-last run of the season.
Several hundred fans were on hand to watch Hobby Stock, Mini-Mod, Dwarf, Pure Stock, and IMCA Modifieds participate on a warm August night.
Earlana Lamkey from Winnemucca has been coming to the 1/3-mile oval track since it opened years ago and was on hand again Friday evening.
“My son races IMCA and my grandson races Mini-Mods," Lamkey said. “I love the thrill of it, I have always loved stock car racing; I love the dirt track, I don’t watch NASCAR or any of that.”
Lamkey was sitting in a chair that she brought with in the handicapped parking area directly behind the fence.
“Sitting out here you can see every corner which is really nice," Lamkey said. "Everybody in town should really come out and try it because it is a lot of fun. It is not expensive and the kids have fun and they have free give-aways during the intermission.”
The WRR has hosted nine events this year, and the last races of the season will be held at WRR on Friday, Sept. 13 starting at 7 p.m.
