The Lowry High School softball squad went to North Valleys in Reno last Thursday for a make-up game, and pitcher Mackenzie Salas-Begay didn’t allow a run in a two-hit, 15-0 shutout of the Panthers.
The Lady Bucks started out fast with two runs in the first, and they added 12 more in the second to put the game out of reach. Sydney Connors drove in four runs while going 3-for-4 at the plate. Lowry had 16 hits against North Valleys and they did not commit a single error in the game.
On Friday, the Lady Bucks traveled to Sparks and crushed the Railroaders 13-0 behind Macey Katzenmeyer’s 10 strike-out, two-hitter. Connors cracked a homer and sophomore Josie Ellifritz went 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, as Lowry scored five in the second, four in the fourth, and another four in the sixth on their way to the win. Sierra Maestrejuan was 3-for-4 and had a triple for the Lady Bucks.
Saturday’s game was more of the same for Lowry, as they ran the Railroaders off the tracks with a 20-2 pounding. Two runs in the top of the first got the girls started, and they added two more in the second to jump out to an early lead. 11 runs in the sixth put the game on ice for the Lady Bucks, as Katzenmeyer held Sparks to just six hits while striking out five in her second win of the series. Connors went 5-for-5 and had two homers, while McClellan was 6-6 and had a dinger of her own. The girls did not commit an error in either of the games against Sparks.
Currently Fernley is undefeated at 13-0, Elko is 12-2, and Lowry remains in third with a 10-3 record. Fallon is close behind at 8-3, Dayton sits at 7-5, and Sparks (4-9) is tied with North Valleys (4-9).
Spring Creek (4-10), South Tahoe (1-11), and Truckee (0-11) round out the Northern 3A standings. The top six finishers will make the playoffs, with the top two finishers getting a first round bye.
