The Lowry High School boys golf team went to the Ruby View Golf Course in Elko last Wednesday and came away with a third-place finish with a team score of 358.
Truckee shot 336 for the team win, well ahead of second-place South Tahoe (356).
Elko (360) finished fourth, Fernley (373) was fifth, and Spring Creek (389) and Dayton (471) rounded out the scoring.
"The course played tough today for the Buckaroos," said LHS coach Andrew Meyer. "It was not our best performance, but we snuck out with a third-place finish.”
Truckee’s Ethan Flynn (79) and Owen Slusher (82) finished first and second, respectively.
South Tahoe’s Bailey Sommerfield (84) and Marcus Slack (85) were third and fourth.
Lowry’s Dillon Patterson (87) was part of a four-way tie for fifth place with Fernley’s Isaac O’Neil, Truckee’s Jack Brown, and Spring Creek’s Kevin Thompson.
Lowry’s Caden Rorex shot an 89,and Kobe Stoker tied with Rian DeLong as they both carded 91’s.
Max Mavity (96) and Cal Peters (104) rounded out the Buckaroo team.
Lowry places second in Spring Creek
On Thursday, the Spring Creek Golf Course hosted the 3A North Division teams, and the Bucks moved up a notch for a second place finish by shooting 343.
Truckee (337) took the team title again, while Elko (356) was third.
South Tahoe (365) finished fourth and Spring Creek (384) nabbed fifth place. Fernley (392) and Dayton (486) were the final teams.
Truckee’s Gabe Smith was the low man on the day with a 79. Patterson (82) and Elko’s Derek Peters (82) tied for second place, while DeLong (83) stepped up for fourth place .
Stoker (88), Rorex (90), Mavity (97), and Peters (99) rounded out the Buckaroo scores.
“We need to start gearing up for state with a goal of finishing second in the league,” Meyer said. “Aim small, miss small.”
Lowry is back on the course on Wednesday, May 1, at Genoa Ranch Golf Course for the South Tahoe tournament.
Lowry closes out the regular season on May 7 at Sierra Sage Golf Course for the North Valleys tournament and May 8 Truckee hosts the Northern 3A,
The NIAA State Championship have been moved from Truckee to the Genoa Lakes and Genoa Ranch Golf Courses on May 13-14.
The Northern 3A doesn't have a regional tournament and the top three teams in the final regular points standings advance to the state tournament.
Currently, Truckee, South Tahoe and Lowry hold those three spots.
