Joseph Leroy Gough, 82, of Winnemucca passed away on April 8, 2109 in Fallon, NV, losing his battle with cancer.
Joseph was born on April 13, 1936 in Blackfoot, ID to Rulon and Louise Gough.
He proudly served in the Nevada National Guard and the United States Army (retired). Joe worked at RT French Company in Blackfoot, ID then transferred to the plant in Winnemucca, NV; in later years he worked at Tallman Lumber in Winnemucca.
He was an active member of the United Methodist Church, Winnemucca NV; Word of Life Fellowship, Winnemucca NV, and Grass Valley Baptist Church Winnemucca.
Joe served his community as a member of Lions Club International (former local president), Humboldt Hospital Auxiliary (Honorary Life Member), Humboldt County Regional Planning Commission (Former Chairman); frequent and active volunteer with Senior Citizen’s Center.
In his spare time he enjoyed Woodworking, Hiking, camping, bird watching, fishing, hunting, Bible Study, fixing things, helping others and doing random acts of kindness.
Joe was a longtime resident and stalwart member of the Winnemucca Community. He served many churches, civic and fraternal organizations and lived out his Faith, by showing those around him his Christian love.
He fixed frozen pipes, put up fencing, rehung doors, and changed flat tires, usually for the elderly. He also helped to build church facilities and made sacred furniture and crosses for several church congregations across Northern Nevada. He was a talented wood worker and made beautiful furniture, toys and puzzles.
He was always a champion for the underdog - he saw a need and filled it quietly, without seeking recognition. He will be sorely missed, but is at Home with his Lord and Savior.
