Last Saturday the Lowry High School swim team went to Carson City and took on the 3A North Division in a unique event.
The Buckaroos had several strong finishes from Evan Jeppsen, who took third place in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 1 minute, 1.72 seconds, and he was also third (27.59) in the 50 yard freestyle.
“This week’s meet was a pentathlon style invite separated into two divisions," said LHS coach Shelby Ruff. "Athletes had the option to do 100 yard races of each stroke and a 50 freestyle, or 50 yards of each and a 100 yard freestyle. All the guys did every event, though Jeppsen did the sprint division. The guys in the 100’s posted regional qualifying times in every stroke.”
Jeppsen finished fifth overall in the pentathlon with a combined time of 3:24.52, while Hunter Lewis (5:01.72) was 14th, Charles Gonin (5:03.31) took 16th, and Tristan Miller (5:17.31) was 20th.
Jeppsen also took fourth (32.90) in the 50 yard butterfly, seventh (44.35) in the 50 yard breaststroke, and eighth (37.96) in the 50 yard backstroke.
Adaya Goldblatt (1:17.50) was the top girl finisher with a 23rd in the 100 yard backstroke, 25th (30.75) in the 50 yard freestyle, and 36th (1:10.79) in the 100 yard freestyle. Mackie Grady (1:43.0) was 37th in the 100 yard breaststroke, and she took 49th place in both the 50 free (36.06) and the 100 free (1:19.78).
“The girls each did the freestyle events and one stroke with Grady qualifying for regionals in the 100 Breaststroke and Goldblatt cutting time from her 100 back,” Ruff said. “Swimmers are ranked individually for this meet based on the cumulative time for the pentathlon.”
Lowry travels to the Douglas County Swimming Pool to take on North Valleys Saturday, April 20 for a meet starting at 9 a.m.
