Gary Wayne Evert, 77, of Winnemucca passed away on April 2, 2019.
Gary was born on July 31, 1941 in Brookfield, Illinois to Robert and Nina Evert.
He lived in Illinois, West Virginia, Delaware, Texas, California, finally settling in Nevada with his family in Buena Vista Valley below Unionville in the late seventies. While he lived in San Diego he met and married Maggie Evert.
Gary proudly served in the United States Navy for four years during the Vietnam War aboard the U.S.S. Yorktown.
After leaving the Navy he went to work for Univac, Computer Science Corporation (CSC), National Security Agency (NSA), Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and the Space Ship Program for NASA on the Mars Operation.
After settling in Unionville he bought 1300 acres in Buena Vista Valley. This was Gary’s dream and made it into a lucrative hay production property. Gary enjoyed his ranch and being in the fields. He also enjoyed restoring classic vehicles and fabrication.
He is survived by his wife Maggie Evert and his children Lorie Clarke, Yvette Jones (Russ) and Lisa Evert. His grandchildren Todd Weagant, Charlene Fetterly (Eric), Danielle Liebsack (Brady) and Kyle Jones; great grandchildren Terrance Fetterly, Lauryn Avery, Zane Fetterly, Cade Sellers, Quentyn Sellers, Zoe Weagant, Eliza Weagant and Jhett Weagant; his brother Ken Evert.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Nina Evert, Sister Nancy Galofre and grandsons Casey Constant and Gary Weagant.
Services for Gary will be held on Saturday April 13, 2019 at Saint Paul’s Catholic Church in Winnemucca, NV with Rosary at 10:30 and funeral Mass at 11:00 am.
