The Battle Mountain High School softball team got back to its winning ways, collecting three league victories at West Wendover this past weekend.
The Lady Longhorns won each of the three games by double digits to improve to 8-3 in the Northern 2A.
Battle Mountain claimed the opening game 19-7 on Friday after scoring five runs in the top of the first inning. The Wolverines closed the gap to 9-5 in the fifth inning, when the Lady Longhorns blew the game open with 10 runs in the top of the sixth inning.
West Wendover scored twice in the bottom of the sixth, but could not prevent the contest from ending as part of the 10-run mercy rule.
Battle Mountain had to overcome a 4-1 deficit in the first inning in the opening game on Saturday to win 16-4 in seven innings. The Lady Longhorns scored five times in the third inning and four more in the fifth to lead 13-4. Battle Mountain added three more runs in the seventh inning.
Battle Mountain closed out the day with a 20-2 win in the series finale on Saturday. After building a 2-0 advantage after two innings of action, Battle Mountain scored 18 runs in the next three innings for the blow out victory.
Battle Mountain was scheduled to travel to Lovelock on Tuesday for a doubleheader with Pershing County. Results were not available at press time.
The Lady Longhorns are back home this weekend to play White Pine, beginning Friday at 4 p.m. The two schools play a doubleheader on Saturday at 10 a.m.
