The McDermitt High School track and field team went to Battle Mountain last Saturday and posted a second place showing in the 4 x100 Relay with a time of 49.97 seconds.
MHS junior Ben Draunidalo finished third in the long jump with a jump of 18 feet, 5 inches.
In addition, he was fourth (11.72 seconds) in the 100-meter dash and 13th in the discus with a throw of 94 feet, 6 inches.
“We are pushing to get better,” MHS track coach Rich Egan said. “Alex (Navarro) took fourth in the 800 (2:25). He’s working and he’s getting there. We are trying to get him down to about 2:20. He’s about five seconds off that mark right now, but by the time regional comes around I think that he will be there.”
Steele Crossley (12:24) took fourth in the 3,200 meters and eighth (5:43.9) in the ,1600 meters for the Bulldogs.
Robert Pope (32-7) finished sixth for McDermitt in the triple jump, and 16th (14-11) in the long jump, while Andrew Villalobos (30-6) was ninth in the triple jump and 28th (13-1) in the long jump.
Enrique Villalobos (28-4) finished 30th in the shot put and 41st in the discus (65-5).
Colby Brown (26-5) finished 39th in the shot put and 50th (58-3) in the discus.
“The season is going well overall,” MHS track and field coach Richard Egan said. “The boys are really supportive of one another at practice and also at the meets, so that is a big plus for all of our kids here.”
“Next week at Parma we are trying to get a 4 X 800 team together, but we don’t want to interfere with any of their other events. The 4 X 800 is asking a lot, especially if the kids are running or jumping also.”
“Hats off to the boys that are out here,” Egan concluded. “We are working hard at practice; all I can say is keep it up boys.”
