The Incline Highlanders gave Pershing County headaches this past week. Pershing County, coming off three losses against top-ranked Yerington, traveled to Reno for the first game of the triple-header on Tuesday.
They lost 14-2 in five innings to the runner-up team in the Northern 2A.
Pershing County hosted the final two games of the series at home on Saturday, March 30. It didn’t get any better for the boys in red and white. The Mustangs lost both games in five innings (16-0, 22-0).
Despite the stumble the Mustangs stand united and continue to improve, which is all their coaches and fans ask of them.
“The loss was definitely an eye-opener as it showed what we need to work on,” said PCHS coach Will Barter.
The Mustangs hope to beef up their strengths and chip away at their shortcomings at after-school practice sessions — as many as they can squeeze in before the next game.
With the losses Pershing County stands at 3-8 overall and 2-7 in the 2A Northern league.
On Tuesday, April 2, Lovelock played North Tahoe (1-4) in Reno for the opening game of a tripleheader. Results were not available at press time.
The Mustangs host the last two games of the series on Saturday, April 6.
Pershing County hosts Mineral County on April 9 at 3 p.m. for a non-league match-up against the 1A school.
