Fernley came to town for a double header last Thursday and took out the Lady Bucks 4-3 and 17-10. The Lady Bucks now sit at 3-2 in league play and 5-11 overall.

Lowry led 3-1 in the first game against the Vaqueros after five innings, but they gave up 3 runs in the seventh inning to give the win to Fernley.

“They are a well-coached, competitive team and they came ready to play,” said LHS coach Austin Mayo. “We had a lot of missed opportunities. You hang a ball in this league and they are going to hit it over the fence. I feel like we could have won that game, but it didn’t go our way; we left too many runners on base.”

Sierra Maestrejuan was 2-4 and Kenzie Dowd-Smith was 2-3 for the Lady Bucks in the first game against Fernley.

The second game saw Lowry give up ten runs in the first inning, and that lead was insurmountable for the Lady Bucks.

Mayo said, “Things didn’t go well for us in the first inning, but we battled back and made a game of it. We had a shot at the end.”

Lowry scored seven runs in the fourth inning and three in the sixth, but it was too little too late for the Lady Bucks.

The Lady Bucks went to Reed High School on Friday and Saturday to square off in Non-Conference tournament play.

They won their first game against James Logan 4-3, before going down 11-0 to Heritage High from Brentwood, CA. Las Plumas took down Lowry 2-1, but the Lady Bucks rebounded for a 5-2 win against San Lorenzo Valley, only to fall to James Logan in their final game 7-4.

The Lady Bucks travel to Dayton for league play on April 5-6.

“Dayton is always a tough team, so that will be interesting,” Mayo said.

Lowry will host South Tahoe April 12-13.
