The Battle Mountain High School volleyball team suffered a pair of Northern 2A losses this past weekend at home.

The Lady Longhorns hosted Incline on Friday night and lost 25-19, 15-25, 25-5 and 25-21.

Incline jumped out to a 6-3 lead in the first set but a kill by Lolly Argueta and an ace by Sarahi Jimenez helped tie the set at 9-9. However, the Highlanders reeled off the next four points and forced the Lady Longhorns to take a timeout.

Incline did not trail again, but Uliana Willingham added a pair of kills to keep Battle Mountain within striking distance. The Lady Longhorns closed the gap to 20-17 but missed a serve on its next possession and the Highlanders clinched the set from there.

Battle Mountain scored eight of the first nine points in the second set and grew the advantage to double figures after kills by Isabella DeAllah and Brooke Ripley. The Highlanders closed within five points at 15-10, only to see the Lady Longhorns close out the set on a 10-5 run.

As good as it went in the second set for Battle Mountain, it was equally as bad in the third. A kill by Willingham gave the Lady Longhorns a 1-0 lead but that was the lone bright spot as Incline used an 11-0 run to lead 21-3 and never looked back.

Incline used that momentum to build an 18-10 lead in the fourth set but Battle Mountain did not go away. Aided by a kill by DeAllah, the Lady Longhorns cut the deficit in half to 18-14. Incline’s lead shrunk to 20-19 after a missed serve, but the Highlanders scored the next three points to hold on for the four-set win.

DeAllah paced Battle Mountain with nine kills, while Willingham added four kills. Addi Slaybaugh had three kills and Drue Domagala, Isabel Diaz and Ripley each had two kills.

Julia Ramirez (15), DeAllah (14) and Jimenez (10) reached double figures in kills for the Lady Longhorns. Domagala had a team-high 24 assists and DeAllah and Argueta each had two blocks.
