The Lowry High School boys and girls cross country teams travelled to Idaho this past weekend to participate in the largest meet of the season.

“What is exciting about Bob Firman is that it is probably the biggest race these kids will ever run in," said LHS coach Kathy Norcutt. "It is bigger than our regionals or state for the sheer number of athletes that compete; close to 4,000 kids were there this weekend.”

Runners from seven western states took to the course at Eagle Island State Park, and the Bucks represented Lowry well.

The varsity girls race found Becca Kuskie finishing sixth with a time of 19 minutes, 45 seconds, while Kinsey Albisu clocked a 24:29 and Althea Houston ran 26:13.

Will Kracaw finished 12th in the boys varsity race with a time of 16:38 and Christian Olson ran 18:00.

Running in his first 5K, Jeremy Walker ran 18:22, Chris McGuire posted 20:34, and Dylan Nee logged 21:15.

The freshman girls race featured Jovi Kuskie finishing fifth out of 181 runners with a time of 20:14.

“Jovi did phenomenal, she had a great race," Norcutt said. "Cal Peters also had a great day; he was 90th out of 255 runners in his race.”

Peters ran the 5K boys freshman race in 19:44, Tyler J. Morrison finished in 21:13, and Jesse Hawkins ran 21:28.

“Everyone is showing personal improvement. I was really happy," added the coach. "Their times were good, they were really competitive and prepared for the course. They handled the pressure of a big meet like this well and rose to the occasion, they were super-focused.”

Lowry cross country will return to action on Saturday in Truckee.
