Kuskies sweep races in North Tahoe

Last Friday, the Lowry High School cross country team travelled up the Sierra Nevada Mountains to run at altitude in their first competition of the year. 

“Lowry cross country had a great day today at North Tahoe,” said LHS coach Kathy Norcutt. “Nine of our 13 athletes came home with medals.”

Becca Kuskie grabbed top honors in the girls 3.3-mile varsity race with a time of 25 minutes, 32.78 seconds. She was over a minute quicker than North Tahoe's Kili Lehmkuhl (26:51.12). 

Lowry's Makayla Levielle (29:22) was ninth in the varsity girls race.

In the 3.3-mile varsity boy’s   race Will Kracaw (21:32) finished second, Christian Olson (23:06) was 12th and Dylan Nee (26:12) placed 48th.

The 2.8-mile freshmen/sophomore combined girls race was won by Lowry's Jovi Kuskie in a time of 22:56.

Teammates Alethea Houston (27:10) came in eighth and Kinsey Albisu (27:15) finished ninth.

The Buckaroos' Jeremy Walker (20:11,38) claimed the victory in the 2.8-mile boys sophomore race and Christopher McGuire (22:09) placed ninth.

“The kids were mentally tough on a challenging course,” Norcutt commented. “They were focused and very competitive. Everyone ran really well and I’m so proud of their efforts today.”

Cal Peters placed third (21:48) in the 2.8 mile freshman boys race, Tyler J. Morrison (24:06) finished twelfth, and Jesse Hawkins (24:19) claimed the fourteenth spot. 

Lowry travelled to Boise, Idaho today (Saturday) to participate in the “Bob Firman Invitational” meet. 

Lowry will run in Truckee on Saturday, Sept. 29, and host its annual invitational on Friday, Oct. 5.
