Truckee pulls away late to beat Lowry

After winning its first league game of the season against Sparks in its home opener, the Lowry High School football team has dropped three straight conference games, including Friday’s 27-10 loss against Truckee.

The Wolverines drew first blood with a couple of field goals, before Brendan Domire completed a pass to Preston Snow for Lowry’s only touchdown of the game, briefly giving the Bucks a 7-6 lead.

Truckee answered with a touchdown in the final seconds of the first half, but missed the extra point to take a 12-7 lead into halftime.

Lowry managed to tack on a field goal in the third quarter while holding Truckee scoreless and keep the game close at 12-10.

Truckee scored 15 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to account for the final score.

Mike Combes was a fan in attendance at the game and commented, “My son (Rudy Cole) plays on the Lowry team, he plays on the kickoff and kickoff return teams.”

When asked what he liked about High School football, Combes confessed, “I like any type of football, it’s always a good sport to be around. The kids have been around it since they were little.”

The loss drops Lowry to 1-3 in league play and 2-3 overall, while the Wolverines go to 3-1 in league and 4-1 overall.

The Buckaroos travel to North Valleys for another 3A Northern test on Friday at 7 p.m. against the 1-3 Panthers who lost  68-18 against Churchill County (Fallon) last week.

Lowry returns home on Sept 28 at 7 p.m. to take on South Tahoe.
