MCDERMITT — The McDermitt High School football team faced off against Pyramid Lake (Nixon) in a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon in McDermitt.
In a high-scoring shootout the Bulldogs lost 52-38 against the Lakers, giving the Lakers a 2-0 record for the season.
McDermitt led at halftime 38-20, but Pyramid Lake closed the gap to 38-36 by the end of the third quarter.
The Bulldogs did not score in the second half, while the Lakers added another 16 points in the final quarter for the 52-38 final.
Asena Draunidalo was a fan in attendance at the game to watch her junior son Ratu play.
“I’m not much of a football fan," Draunidalo said. "I am just following my son. I am crossing my fingers that nothing happens to the boys today, they are kind of small.”
The Bulldogs only have nine players on the team, while Pyramid Lake brought 13 to take on McDermitt.
McDermitt stays at home for their this week to play Owyhee in an Eastern 1A contest at 1 p.m.
The Bulldogs hit the road on Friday, Sept. 28, to play Wells at 7 p.m.
