The Lowry High School girls soccer team took their show on the road last weekend, visiting both Sparks and North Valleys for 3A conference action.

After failing to score in their season-opening loss to Elko at home, the Lady Buckaroos took a 2-1 lead into halftime against Sparks on Friday, Sept. 7, then tacked on another goal in the second half to dispatch the Railroaders 3-1.

Saturday’s trip to Reno to tackle the North Valleys Panthers did not fare as well for Lowry.

The Panthers dropped four un-answered goals on the Lady Bucks in the first half, enroute to a 6-2 triumph.

“The girls played well in both games this weekend," said LHS coach Ed Partee. "During the North Valleys game, the second half was played much better than the first half. They seemed to be a little intimidated during the first half, which led to some distractions. The second half of that game had much better play, resulting in both goals by Hailey (Fernandez). The defense held strong, only allowing two to get by in the second half.”

Lowry is now 1-2 in league play and squared off on Friday against North Tahoe in a 3A league home contest. Results of this contest were not available at press time.

The Lady Bucks take on conference rival Truckee at home starting at noon today (Saturday).

Churchill County (Fallon) comes to town on Tuesday for a 5 p.m. match.

Lowry heads to Lake Tahoe next weekend to play Incline on Friday, Sept. 21, at 5 p.m. and South Tahoe on Saturday, Sept. 22, at noon.
