The Lowry High School volleyball squad lost its home openers last weekend against Dayton and South Tahoe.
Dayton won in straight sets (25-14, 25-16, 26-24) on Friday.
“I think the ‘home’ atmosphere added a little bit of pressure to the girls,” said Lowry coach Brandon Eastman after the loss to the Lady Dust Devils. “Instead of using that to pump us up and motivate us and let us relax a little bit, it took us a while to settle in to playing on our home court. We get a big home crowd, people love to come and watch us play. I think sometimes, especially if you are not used to it, it can add some pressure to you.”
Saturday’s match against South Tahoe saw Lowry win the first set, only to lose a 3-1 battle (20-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-17) in the end.
“We are trying to focus less on the end result and more on the process of getting better each day," Eastman said. "So far, through our first three weekends, we have improved with each match.”
South Tahoe moved to 3-0 in league play after their win, while Lowry dropped to 0-4.
The Lady Bucks travel to Sparks on Friday for a 6 p.m. match with the Railroaders and play at Fernley on Saturday at noon.
Lowry is back on the road Tuesday to play Churchill County in Fallon at 6 p.m.
Lowry’s next home matches will be on Sept. 28 against Spring Creek and Sept. 29 against Elko, when they try to avenge the losses to both teams earlier in the season on the road.
