The Lowry High School boys soccer team brought a winning league record into its home opener against Sparks on Friday night at Lowry High School after its defeat of Elko on the road last week.
Sparks was not intimidated coming into Winnemucca, as they handed the Buckaroos an 8-1 loss.
“Sparks is a really good team, I think they are probably better than last year,” said Lowry coach Steve Swanson after Friday’s loss. “We ran into a buzz saw and we got beat up. The team played the style of soccer that I wanted them to play. They passed really well, but our defensive play struggled.”
Looking forward to Saturday’s game against North Valleys Swanson noted, “If anything North Valleys is a better team than Sparks. North Valleys played in the 4A championship last year, Sparks played in the 3A championship last year. Truthfully, the 4A and 3A are dead even.”
The game on Saturday did not fare any better for Lowry, as they dropped to 1-2 in league play losing to North Valleys 8-0.
The Bucks now start a three-game road trip, travelling North Tahoe on Friday for a 6 p.m. start. The Buckaroos stay in the Lake Tahoe area to play Truckee on Saturday at noon.
The road trip concludes on Tuesday, Sept. 18, in Fallon against Churchill County.
The Buckaroos are back home on Friday, Sept. 21, to play Incline at 5 p.m.
