The Battle Mountain High School girls golf team is off to a quick start, winning a tournament held at Chimney Creek Golf Course in Wells last Friday.
The Lady Longhorns shot a 494 to win the tournament and White Pine was the only other school to record a team score.
Battle Mountain had three girls finish in the top five individually. Lynzee Devlin was second overall with a round of 107. Teammates Destiny Villanueva (116) and Adriana Robles (120) were fourth and fifth, respectively. Adriene Burkhart rounded out the scores with a 151.
“It’s very early in the season but this win was important to the girls,” said BMHS head coach Roger Wallock. “The excitement and motivation that winning provides is invaluable in focusing the girls in practice. It was exciting seeing the team be successful and we hope to continue to improve our team scores each week.”
Battle Mountain is scheduled to compete in West Wendover on Thursday and Elko on Thursday, Sept. 20.
The Lady Longhorns will be on their home course on Thursday, Sept. 27.
The NIAA 2A State Championships are scheduled for Monday, Oct. 8, and Tuesday, Oct .9.
