The Battle Mountain High School boys soccer team began league play at home this past weekend with a tie and a loss to a pair of Lyon County schools.
The Longhorns got on the board first on a hot Friday afternoon against Yerington after Kelvin Diaz took a rebound off a shot off a corner kick in the ninth minute.
Yerington bounced back with a pair of goals in the 28th and 33rd minute to go in front 2-1. The Lions maintained that advantage for the remainder of the first half.
Yerington held the one-goal lead for the first 17 minutes of the second half, when Battle Mountain scored the equalizing goal in the 57th minute when Alan Martinez headed in a corner kick.
Both squads had chances to win the final 20 minutes but could not get the winning score and the match ended in a 2-2 tie.
Fernley shuts out

Battle Mountain found it tough going on Saturday afternoon as Fernley came to town and left with an 11-0 victory.
The Longhorns are now 0-1-1 in the Northern 3A ‘B’ Division.
Battle Mountain is back home this week to play White Pine on Friday at 5 p.m. and West Wendover on Friday at 1 p.m.
Following the home matches, Battle Mountain will be on the road for four matches in a row against Whittell, Dayton, Whitr Pine and West Weendover.
Battle Mountain then returns home on Oct. 12, to play Dayton.
