In its first league competition of the season, the Lowry High School girls golf team came in second place in Spring Creek on Tuesday.
The Lady Buckaroos shot 408 as a team, losing out to Elko (395) by 13 strokes.
Tatyana Carlson posted a round of 80 for the lowest score of the day, beating out Elko’s Sarah Sarbacker (84) by four strokes and Truckee’s Ryan Flynn (85) by five.
Hannah Havens (105) had the next lowest score for Lowry, followed by Angelina Martinez (111), McKenzie Vandermark (112), Kaitlyn Hales (125) and Bailey Hayes (134).
“We finished second on Tuesday by only 13 strokes, I am very proud of the team,” said LHS coach Savannah Talbott. “Wednesday’s match we are going in with positive attitudes, we have beautiful weather and we are ready for another great day of golf.”
North Valleys and Sparks did not compete in Spring Creek, but the eight other teams in the Northern 3A league were there.
Host Spring Creek finished third (413), Truckee (434) was fourth, Fernley (475) was fifth, South Tahoe (484) finished sixth, Churchill County (515) came in seventh, and Dayton did not have a team score.
The positive attitudes paid off on Wednesday at Elko’s Ruby View Golf Course.
Lowry took home its first win in the Northern 3A since 2016, shooting a 365 as a team. They took 43 strokes off their total from the previous day.
Elko (375) finished second, and Truckee (396) took third. Elko won every league event last season and all but one the previous year, making this a huge win for the Lady Bucks.
Spring Creek (426) finished fourth and Fernley (429) carded a fifth place finish.
Carlson once again topped the field with a 77. Havens (94) finished second for Lowry, while Martinez and Vandermark each broke 100 and shot 97 on the day. Hales (113) and Hayes (143) rounded out the scores for Lowry.
The Lady Buckaroos are off next week and return to the course on Monday, Sept. 17, in South Lake Tahoe. Lowry stays in the Lake Tahoe and plays in Truckee on Tuesday, Sept. 18.
