The Battle Mountain High School volleyball team closed out the regular season with a pair of wins to clinch the No. 5 seed in this weekend’s Northern 2A Regional Championship in Ely.
The Lady Longhorns needed every bit of five sets to beat Pershing County in Lovelock on Tuesday, Oct. 23. Pershing County won the first set 25-20 and the two rivals traded sets from there.
Battle Mountain got in the win column in set two at 25-22, only to see the Lady Mustangs fight back and win set three 25-18. The momentum shifted from there, as Battle Mountain won the fourth set 25-16 and held off the Lady Mustangs 15-13 in set five.
A loss by Battle Mountain would have created a three-way tie with Pershing County and Silver Stage.
Addi Slaybaugh had a team-high 11 kills, while Isabella Deallah added seven. Brooke Ripley finished with five kills and Drue Domagala and Uliana Willingham each had four kills.
Slaybaugh (four) and Domagala (three) had seven of the 11 aces for Battle Mountain and Willingham had five blocks. Deallah (18) and Julia Ramirez (17) led the team in digs and Domagala had 35 assists.

Coral Academy
Battle Mountain played its final home match on Thursday and beat Coral Academy 25-4, 25-7 and 25-8.
The Lady Longhorns had 25 aces in the three sets, led by Ramirez with seven. Slaybaugh and Deallah each had six aces. Deallah also had a team-high seven kills. Domagala finished with 27 assists.
Battle Mountain opens the regional tournament on Friday against North Tahoe at 6:45 p.m. in Ely. If the Lady Longhorns win, they play Yerington on Saturday at 10 a.m.
White Pine and Silver Stage meet in the other Friday match at 5 p.m. That winner plays Incline on Saturday at 11:45 a.m. The championship is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday.
