Obituary: Lynford (Lyn) Melody

Lynford (Lyn) Melody, a long-time resident of Paradise Valley, passed away on October 18, 2018 at the age of 86 with his family by his side.

Lyn was very dedicated to his family and serving his community in many different ways.

Lyn served his country in the National Guard for 10 yrs. He was a banker for 35 years ending his career in Winnemucca.

Following his banking career he was employed by the Winnemucca Library where drove the Book Mobile for 14yrs. Some of his greatest joys were during those years. He loved watching the excitement the children exuded when he pulled into their small rural towns.

Lyn’s greatest passion was caring for the town and people of Paradise Valley. A town he called home for many years. In the years that he lived in Paradise Valley, he wore many different hats; from maintaining the cemetery and making sure every Veteran had a flag on their gravesite to keeping up the historical buildings that makes Paradise what it is. You could always find a friendly face with a warm smile and a wave as you drove into town whether you were a resident or just visiting.

Lyn is survived by his wife, Rachel Melody; his granddaughters, Monique McDermott (Ben), Lynda Catlett (Evan) and Shanley Melody; his six great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his father, George Melody; mother, Alice Bull; his sons, Raymond and Tony Melody.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the organizations that Lyn found to be important:

The Boys and Girls Club of Winnemucca, 1973 Whitworth Way, Winnemucca, NV 89445 or to The American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org

A Memorial gathering will be held at the Paradise Valley Community Hall on Saturday, October 27, 2018 from 1-3pm.
