The High Desert Aquatic Masters swim club competed at the Senior Olympics in Las Vegas on Oct. 6-7.
Mary Agnes Boni, Joyce Mendiola and Maria Bengochea all swam in multiple events, and they brought home hardware from each to justify their efforts.
Jonathan Reynolds is the coach of the team.
“Mary Agnes was a gold medalist at the senior games in Vegas last year, and she inspired our other members to swim there this year," Reynolds said.
Boni nabbed a gold medal in each of the six races she swam.
Mendiola swam four races and got a gold, two silvers and a bronze. Bengochea secured one of each medal in her three races.
“The Masters Swim team is a part of the United States Masters,” Reynolds said. “Their purpose is to develop a life-long love of swimming, not just for health and wellness, but also for recreation, social aspects and competition.”
“High Desert Aquatic Masters is really for professionals, for working adults, or even stay at home adults, to come and be part of a team, get fitness, and have camaraderie,” added Reynolds.
The club swims on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Winnemucca Municipal swimming pool located at 380 E. Haskell St. The times are 6:45 a.m.-7:45 a.m. in the summer and 5:45 a.m.-6:45 a.m. in the winter.
The cost of the program is $79 a month and annual fees that total $60.
This amount covers the facility usage fee, required insurance and coaching.
