Obituary: Dean “Grizz” Howery

Dean “Grizz” Howery, 78 of Lovelock, Nevada entered to the happy hunting ground on October 10, 2018 at 11:10 am surrounded by his loving family.

Dean was born on October 13, 1939 in Greeley, Colorado to Dudley and Evelyn (Horn) Howery and was the youngest of 4 children.  After proudly serving his country for 11 years (1956-1967) in the United States Navy and being honorably discharged, he scouted the U.S. for the perfect place to live and settled in Lovelock.

  It was here he married his wife, Nancy (McDonald), on September 24, 1994.  Dean enjoyed repairing things in addition to building magnificent works of art and created many wonderful treasures for his family over the years.

He was proceeded in death by his son, Jason, his mother and father as well as his brother, Ridge Durand.  He is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughters, Dean’a (Tom), Maria, Deana (Deke), Margaret (Darin); son Dutch (Laura); sisters Eula and Fern (Dale); grandchildren, Jeremiah, Kylie, Demi, Sara (Ky), Erin (Ashley), Carly (Justin), Rachel (Jaime), Jackie, Dylan (Jessica), Justin (Alex), Jordan (Lauren), Derek, Samantha (Brandon) and 12 great-grandchildren plus several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life was held October 13, 2018 at 1pm at Lone Mountain Cemetary.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Penny Bartel, APRN, Sheriff Jerry Allen and the Pershing County Sheriff’s office as well as Darrel Mancebo, the Lovelock Police Department and the Lovelock Fire Department for their care and support during this difficult time.
