The Battle Mountain High School girls golf team concluded its season with the NIAA 2A State Championships on Oct. 8-9.
The Lady Longhorns finished fourth as a team, with a two-day total of 1,162. Wells took home the state championship with a 1,078 and Sierra Lutheran was second at 1,114. White Pine (1,155) was third, Incline (1,199) was fifth and Yerington (1,271) was sixth. Battle Mountain shot 508 on the second day, which was the best score of the day.
Destiny Villanueva led the Lady Longhorns with a 265 over both days. Adriana Robles carded a two-day total of 274. Adriene Burkhart shot 316 and Brenda Malone finished at 360.
Lynzee Devlin did not play on the first day of the tournament but came back on day two to shoot 117.
“It was unfortunate Monday that Lynzee could not play because of unforeseen circumstances so our team score was not indicative of what we had been shooting all year,” said BMHS head coach Roger Wallock. “Destiny had a great back nine on the tough Toiyabe course and came in with a team best 2 day total. With Lynzee back with us Tuesday, we had the best team total of the day but we were so far behind from Monday that a fourth-place finish was all that was possible. “I am very proud of this team, we overcame some late season adversity to still represent BMHS well at the state tournament.”
