The Lowry High School volleyball team dropped a match (25-12, 25-17, 25-22) at home against Fernley’s Lady Vaqueros on Wednesday night at Pat Hart Court.
The loss dropped the Lady Buckaroos to 3-11 in league play and 6-14 overall.
“We were playing back defensively because we knew they had some really tall, hard-hitters,” said Lowry coach Brandon Eastman after the games. “But, obviously they saw that, so they took advantage of some of the shorter openings. Then, we tried to adjust and take that away, so they started beating us with those hard shots again."
The Lady Buckaroos started each set trading points with Fernley, only to see the Vaqueros take control at the end of each set for the win.
"We had to give something up; we decided to give up the short stuff, because if they keep doing that, we still have a chance to get to it.” Eastman said, “I thought defensively we played really well tonight. That was the best defensive game we have had all year.”
“Our crowd was awesome tonight,” Eastman added. “We had a huge student section because it is homecoming and we were the only event happening tonight. That made the energy in the gym really good all night and helped us keep our energy up on the court and on the bench.”
Last Friday Lowry suffered a 3-0 straight set loss at South Tahoe
(11-25, 12-25, 20-25), and Saturday they lost at Dayton 3-0 (13-25, 14-25, 18-25).
“We are still looking at it like we still have a shot at the playoffs," Eastman said. "We are going after wins, but we are mostly trying to get back to what we do best, playing volleyball like we know how to.”
The Lady Bucks took on winless Sparks (0-11) Friday night at home. Results of the contest were not available at press time.
On Friday, Oct. 19, at 6 p.m., Lowry takes on undefeated Truckee (13-0) at home, followed by North Valleys (1-12) on Saturday, Oct. 20, at noon.
