The Lowry High School boys soccer squad dispatched Churchill County (Fallon) 7-0 to claim a homecoming win over the visitors on Tuesday.
“It was a pretty good game,” said Lowry coach Steve Swanson after the game. “Fallon is a weaker team, although they are much improved from where they were last year. They played us really tough on their home field earlier this year. I don’t think it was the same team today.”
Lowry got on the board first, with only six minutes gone in the first half when Rafael Echeverria scored for the Buckaroos.
Anthony Cuevas scored his first of two goals in the contest several minutes later, followed quickly by Giovani Sapien’s first of three goals.
Lowry led 5-0 at the half and tacked on two more goals in the second period for the final 7-0 win.
“The guys played well," Swanson said. "They passed well and moved the ball around. If they have the confidence to do that against North Tahoe and Truckee, we can play with those guys this weekend, they should be good games.”
The win puts the Buckaroos at 4-8 in league play and 4-10 overall.
“We did some system and play changes that are really working for us,” Swanson said. “Hopefully, this is going to get us to the end of the season, maybe get us into the playoffs. If we can win one of the games this weekend, then Elko, Spring Creek and South Tahoe should all be in our wheelhouse too. We could be close to making the playoffs.”
Lowry played North Tahoe at home Friday; results of the contest were not available at press time.
The Buckaroos host Truckee today (Saturday) at noon.
