WJHS seventh graders win three on the road at Lovelock

The seventh graders from the Winnemucca Junior High Schoolgirls basketball team picked up three wins last weekend in Lovelock.

First, the Warriors squeaked out a victory against Pyramid Lake 31-30.

“We had an off-shooting game, but we were able to pull it out,” said coach Clay Sagers. “Bryce Brinkerhoff scored the go-ahead layup in the last ten seconds of the game.”

Savannah Stoker notched 18 points in the contest and Brinkerhoff finished with eight.

Lovelock was no match for the Warriors in their next game, as WJHS dominated in a 40-8 win. Stoker was the high scorer again with 14, while Southern Gotchy contributed 10 to the effort.

Winnemucca rounded out the day with a 28-8 win against McDermitt for its final win of the weekend.

“We had eight different girls score in that game,” Sagers concluded. “They are working hard to become better defensively and they are coming together as a team at both ends of the floor.”

The Warriors conclude their season at home today (Saturday) at 9 a.m.
