The Winnemucca Junior High School girls eighth-grade basketball team traveled to Lovelock last Saturday and added two more wins to its impressive season.

The Warriors have only lost one game this year.

Kailey Franklin poured in 10 points for the Lady Warriors in their 35-21 win over McDermitt. Megan Cook scored six points, while Mia Hernandez and Alex Barocio both had five.

“I think we fell asleep and had to wake up again,” said coach Daralee Millikan. “When the score was 7-0 in McDermitt’s favor, I called a time-out and that seemed to help. We started playing our game and we were able to pull out the win.”

Winnemucca crushed Pershing County, the host team, 49-6 behind Cook’s 11 point effort and Franklin matched her 10-point effort from the first game.

“This time we were not asleep," Millikan said. "We decided to practice our full-court press for a few minutes and we were able to work out some kinks. The girls played together and did a great job.”

The Warriors conclude their season at home today (Saturday) at 9 a.m.
