Mark Hoy passed away at his home in Winnemucca on August 13, 2018.
Mark was born in Yakima, Washington on September 2, 1939. He was the younger of two boys. Eventually the family made their way to New Castle, Wyoming to work in the oil fields.
The boys started first grade and graduated high school there. In 1950 a sister was born. After the death of their dad, Walt Hoy in a hunting accident in 1955, Mark, his sister Sharon and mother Patricia Hoy moved to Nevada, older brother Sammy was in the Navy.
Mark went to two years of college in Colorado and was also a licensed Real Estate Agent.
He spent his early career in Nevada in gaming, beginning as a 21 dealer, followed by a Roulette Wheel dealer in South Lake Tahoe. He worked for John Harrah, founder of Harrah’s Club and later for son Bill Harrah.
Marks reputation as a “Wheel Dealer” took him to Las Vegas for many years.
He retired as one of the top dealers in Nevada history.
He moved to Winnemucca to be closer to his mother and sister in 1983, he worked at the Red Lion as a dealer and retired in 1996.
Mark loved the desert and its mountains and found complete contentment under its vast skies. He valued honesty, integrity, loyalty and had a generous nature that knew no limits. He loved his family and friends and found great joy in their company. One of his favorite things to do was to go to his sister’s ranch for the brandings and barbeques and on family and friends vacations.
Mark is preceded in death by his mother Patricia A. Hoy, father Walter E. Hoy and brother Sammy A. Hoy and a great niece Audrey Ann.
He is survived by his beloved sister Sharon A Brown (Dennis) of Winnemucca, nephew Tommy Brown (Ahna) and niece Celeste Brown, nephew Jeff Hoy, along with three great nieces, Lacey, Riley and Zoey.
Mark had may long time close friends, Sheridan Blythe, Richard Pestona, Jimmy and Katy Frydendal, Jay and Lea Tabak. These are just a few and he felt he was so blessed to have them.
No services are planned but a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
