The Lowry High School girls golf team went to Dayton on Monday after a two-week break in its season.

The Lady Bucks had won three of their first four competitions when they travelled to take on their Northern 3A competitors.

Lowry continued its winning ways by shooting 397 as a team on the challenging Arnold Palmer designed course.

Lowry out-distanced second place Elko (412) by 15 strokes.

The Lady Bucks held an eight point lead (34) after the match over Spring Creek and Elko who were tied at 26 apiece in the Northern 3A standings.

“Dayton is a tough course, one the girls weren’t really excited about playing, but they ended up doing well,” said Lowry coach Savannah Talbott. “Every girl played beyond expectations, both mine and theirs. We always set goals before tournaments and they crushed every one of them.”

Lowry senior Tatyana Carlson once again took top honors by carding a 78 over second place Ryan Flynn (81) from Truckee. This was Carlson’s fourth tournament win out of five played this season.

“There was a lot of water on the course, but there was not much wind on Monday, unlike like the past couple of years that we went there,” Carlson said of her round at Dayton. “Our team did really good, I am proud of my team for taking the lead on a hard course.”

Elko’s Sarah Sarbacker (89) captured the third spot. Spring Creek’s team (419) finished third and Truckee (424) was fourth.

Lowry places

second in Fallon

The Northern 3A moved to Fallon on Tuesday and Lowry finished second with a 397. Elko won the tournament by two strokes.

“The Fallon course is not in great shape, so we struggled a little bit with that, some of the end of the season stuff that you run into in golf," Talbott said. “We only lost by two strokes to Elko, who has a great team this year.”

The Lady Indians dropped 22 strokes from their previous day’s total to finish first with a score of 395. Spring Creek (404) was third and Fernley (440) finished fourth. Truckee and South Tahoe tied with 441 each.

Carlson took home the individual title again on Tuesday by shooting another 78 to once again defeat Flynn (84).

McKenzie Vandermark (104), Angelina Martinez (105), Hannah Havens (110), Kaitlyn Hales (118), and Bailey Hayes (123) rounded out the Lowry scoring. Only the top four scores are counted in the team totals.

When asked about her chances in the state tournament this year Carlson sounded confident.

"I want to be in the top three this year," Carlson said. "It is going to be tough; there is some good competition in Southern Nevada. If I keep my head on straight, keep thinking positive, and keep practicing I can achieve that goal.”

Lowry travels to Fernley on Tuesday before returning home for their final regular season match on Wednesday.

“We are leading the league right now, all of our ladies should qualify for state," Talbott said "I am proud of them and ready to get to state.”

The state championship will feature the top three teams from the Northern 3A competing in Truckee on Oct 15-16 against the top three teams from the Southern 3A.
