Friday night was all right for the Lowry High School girls varsity volleyball team.
The Lady Bucks were desperate for a win to stay in the playoff hunt in the Northern 3A.
After three weeks on the road, the Lady Bucks were back Winnemucca on Friday night to take on Spring Creek at Pat Hart Court.
The Lady Buckaroos won a five set battle 18-25, 25-23, 25-14, 21-25, 15-10 for the 3-2 victory.
Spring Creek swept Lowry the first time they played this year at the end of August.
“We were able to jump out to a two sets to one lead against Spring Creek,” said Lowry coach Brandon Eastman. “The fourth set was back and forth, back and forth, it was a high quality level set of volleyball. Spring Creek played the later end of that set just a little bit better than us. That carried over to the fifth set; we came out a little slow and got ourselves into a hole down 8-3. But this team was not going to let it get away from them, they have that ‘never say die’ attitude. That is something that we have been preaching to them all year long. No matter what is happening on the court, no matter if things are going our way, we have to have the attitude that the score is 0-0; we are bringing it on every play. I couldn’t be prouder of the way we came together as a team tonight.”
The win moved the Lady Spartans to 4-6 in league play and Lowry sat at 3-7 after their triumph.
Andrea Escobedo had five serving aces and Brooke Hansen delivered 11 kills to help lead the Lady Bucks to the win.
Saturday brought the Elko spikers to Winnemucca and the Lady Indians handed the home team a straight set loss 25-14, 25-7, 25-11.
Lowry now sits at 3-8 in league play for eighth place behind Truckee (10-0), Elko (10-1), South Tahoe (8-2), Fernley (6-4), Spring Creek (5-6), Dayton (4-5) and Churchill County (4-7).
North Valleys (1-9) and Sparks (0-9) round out the Northern 3A division.
The top six teams in the final regular season standings qualify for the postseason tournament to be played in Elko on Nov. 2-3.
Lowry makes its final regular season road trip this weekend.
The Lady Bucks take on South Tahoe on Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at Dayton at noon.
Lowry is back at home on Wednesday, Oct. 10, against Fernley at 6 p.m.
