Battle Mountain golfers claim victory on its home course

The Battle Mountain High School girls golf team looks to be peaking just at the right time, as the 2A season is nearing an end.

The Lady Longhorns were on their home course this past Thursday and used that to their advantage to win the tournament with a season-best score of 437. The Elko JV was second at 448.

“It was a great day for Lady Longhorn golf,” said BMHS coach Roger Wallock. “We shot our best team score of the year and had many individuals shoot personal bests.”

The sophomore duo of Adriana Robles and Destiny Villanueva finished second and third overall, respectively.  Robles shot a 101, while Villanueva carded a 105 at Mountain View Golf Course.

“The young sophomores, Adriana and Destiny, are really starting to play well,” Wallock said.

Lynzee Devlin was ninth overall, as she shot a 109. Freshman Briana Malone shot a 122 in her first tournament as a Battle Mountain player. Adriene Burkhart (127) and Jaione Garcicea (153) rounded out the scores for the Lady Longhorns.

“I am extremely proud of this team and how much they are improving each week,” Wallock said.

The regular season concludes on Friday, Oct. 5, in Round Mountain.

The NIAA 2A State Championship is being hosted by Incline High School and will take place Monday, Oct. 8, and Saturday, Oct. 9.

The first round will be played on Toiyabe Country Club in Washoe Valley. The final 18 holes will take place at Eagle Valley East Golf Course in Carson City.
