Lowry’s Brendan Domire lands Northern 3A first-team offense nod at quarterback

Lowry High School quarterback Brendan Domire was voted to the first team at his position for the year in the 3A Northern Division, as voted on by the league's 10 coaches.

Caleb Sanchez also made the first team on the defensive side as a linebacker.

Domire played both sides of the ball, as many of the Bucks do, and he also secured a second-team defensive pick as a cornerback.

Lowry reached the playoffs for the first time since 2014 and beat Elko in the opening round of the Northern 3A playoffs. The Buckaroos finished the year at 6-6.

Sean McCormick from Churchill County (Fallon) and Truckee’s Marcus Bellon were voted Co-MVP’s. 

Elijah Jackson from Churchill County was crowned as the Offensive Player of the year, while Truckee’s Drew Wingard took the Defensive Player of the year honors. Ben Dooley from Churchill County was the Lineman of the Year. 

The Coach of the Year was awarded to Churchill County’s Brooke Hill, who compiled an undefeated league record of 9-0, 12-0 overall, and they were ranked eighth in the state by Maxpreps.com. 

The Greenwave crushed Pahrump Valley 58-20 in the state semifinals, then dispatched Truckee 28-7 to win the NIAA 3A State Football Championship. 

The first-team offensive squad of the 3A also included running backs Garrett Pennington from North Valleys, Cooper Jones from Elko, and Marcus Trotter of Truckee. South Tahoe’s wide receiver Kody Griffis, Brock Richardson from Churchill County (Fallon), and Tyler Jones from North Valleys joined tight end Justice Rice-Misa from Sparks and Brennen Conklin from Truckee on the first team. Linemen Benni Otuafi and Nick Delgado from Churchill County, Truckee’s Jake Bullion and Ryland Ward, Noah Osterman from Fernley, Alex Rodriguez of Sparks, and Chance Grundmeyer from North Valleys all notched First Team Offensive selections. 

The 3A Northern Division defensive first-team winners that joined Sanchez were defensive linemen Rolando Acosta from Elko, Marcus Trotter of Truckee, Fernley’s Thomas Chapin, and Churchill County’s Trey Rooks. Linebackers Carl Hansen from Elko, Brenden Larsen of Churchill County, Fernley’s Noah Osterman, and George Skaff of Truckee also made the cut. Brock Richardson and Ethan Andrews from Churchill County, Truckee’s Tyler Estabrook, Derek Laferriere, and Emmanuel Valenzuela-Jones were also awarded, as well as Elko’s Cooper Jones and Sunny Rojas from Dayton. 

Lowry tight end Jordan Parker, wide receiver Dorsey Naveran, kicker Jace Mentaberry, and defensive lineman Scottie Smith were all nominated for the 3A Northern Division’s second team.

 Churchill County’s Tommy McCormick, Gabe Hardy, Thomas Steele, and Tristan Rodarte also made the second team, as well as Reed Westwood, Kyle Owsley, and Maxwell Shanks from Spring Creek. North Valleys’ Kyle Claiborne, Fakatouola Finau, and Julien Weaver were selected as well. Truckee brought Kevin Malo, Stephen Ryan, Martin Bravo-Karvonen, Brennen Conklin, Jake Bullion, and Sean Kelly to the team. Elko’s Luis Garcia, Christian Quintana, and Colby Tiner were selected, as were South Tahoe’s Jake Tarwater, Aleki Po’oi from Sparks, Jayson Ramos from Dayton, and Fernley’s Jared Caulk, Jack Knodell, and Setriano Piroddi.
