Joyce Kay Sondermann, a loving friend, great-grandmother, grandmother, aunt, sister, mother, and wife, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday November 3, 2018 after a relatively short, but very valiant battle with cancer at the age of 67.

Joyce entered heaven from her home in Battle Mountain surrounded by her loving husband and several family members.

Joyce is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband of 50 years, Marvin Sondermann of Battle Mountain, Nevada, her son Mike (Kelli) Sondermann also of Battle Mountain, her son Martin (Lori) Sondermann of Nampa, Idaho, her foster daughter Dawn (James) Quintana of Elko, Nevada her mother Margaret Leshikar of Battle Mountain, her brothers Frank Anderson of Fallon, Nevada Daniel Leshikar Jr. of Liberty, Missouri, and her sisters Danna Sadler of American Fork, Utah and Lori Taliaferro of Winnemucca, Nevada. She is also survived by three granddaughters; Angela (Ben), Kylie and Josie, and five grandsons; Joshua (Christie), Regan, Terryn, Jaymz and Michael as well as five great-grandchildren. Joyce was preceded in death by her father Junior Anderson, her step-father Dan Leshikar Sr., her nephew Kevin Hamby, and her daughter Niki Sondermann.

Joyce worked in the community of Battle Mountain over the years as a volunteer with the Little League program and various other community activities.

She worked for Royal Carriage Homes, and the Kwik Drive-in in the 1980’s. She also served as a member of the Battle Mountain hospital board, and owned and operated Cinema Sound video rentals with her husband Marvin for a time. Before retiring Joyce spent 13 years working for the Battle Mountain Band Colony as a home health aide.

Joyce was a devoted wife and mother who loved everything about family. She helped raise three kids, and sacrificed so much for her children.

She especially enjoyed family gatherings, but Christmas time was always her favorite. She would plan Christmas out all year, and spent time looking through gift catalogs for unique items she could buy for everyone.

Those who knew Joyce knew her to be kind and considerate to all. She was willing to help anyone, and was an amazing example of what it means to serve others. Her smile was contagious and she always had time for those in need.

She found something good in everyone, and was always willing to stand up for those she loved. Joyce was a Christian and lived her life as an example of what it meant to love others as yourself. Joyce was confident, and had a strong faith, that one day she would be reunited with her family through the power of God’s amazing grace and abounding mercy. Until then, she will be missed more than any words could ever express.
