Obituary: Brian Wayne Morris

Brian Wayne Morris, 57, of Reno, NV, died in a tragic accident Saturday, November 10, 2018, while acting as Good Samaritan at the scene of a prior accident.

A devout, God-loving man, Brian was a beloved husband, devoted father and trustworthy soul to all who knew him. 

Brian was born in Santa Anna, CA on Valentine’s Day 1961.  He graduated Villa Park High School, Orange County, CA in 1979, and Humboldt State University, Arcata, CA in 1991.  

He met his true love and bride of nearly 27 years, Jan Michele Hufford, at College of the Redwoods, Eureka, CA.  The couple married in Eureka, CA and lived in Winnemucca for 20 years, before moving to Reno in 2015.

Brian lived a full life in the great outdoors and loved to jeep, hunt, fish and ski.  

He had a very successful career as a geologist in mining exploration, overcoming dyslexia and becoming an inspiration and role model.  He recently joined Blackrock Gold Corp. as President, previously served as Senior Vice President of Exploration at Klondex Mines, Ltd. and held management positions with Newmont Mining Corp, Hecla Mining and Great Basin Gold, Ltd. 

He was a member of Reno Christian Fellowship, Geological Society of Nevada, Washoe County Republican Central Committee, and a Nevada Republican Party State Delegate.

Brian is survived by his wife, Jan Hufford Morris; daughter and son-in-law, Tara and Dave Matzen; parents, Wayne and Darlene Morris; sister and brother-in-law, Megan and Dermot O’Doherty, nieces Kate and Fiona; mother- and father-in-law, Wallace and Judie Hufford; brother-in-law Wade Hufford and fiancé Jan Gauthier, nephew Bryce, niece Celeste and her fiancé Matt Dean; sister-in-law Robin Hufford McKenny, brother-in-law Kevin McKenny, nephew Harrison and niece Claire.

A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. this Saturday, November 17, 2018, at Reno Christian Fellowship, 1700 Zolezzi Lane, Reno, NV 89511.
