Veterans Day Grand Slam softball tourney hits Winnemucca

The Winnemucca Lions Club sponsored the second annual Veterans Day Grand Slam Softball Tournament at the softball complex last weekend.

Six teams from Winnemucca, Elko and Reno went head-to-head in a two-day shootout that found Winnemucca’s Hansen Street team as the champion.

They defeated Winnemucca’s Beerly Legal team in the finale, and Elko’s E-Town squad took third.

Jenny Setzer was the Lions Club Coordinator of this event and said, “The Lions have been here in numbers to help organize and support this tournament. They make it easy to coordinate something like this.”

Pedro Castor is the current Winnemucca Lions Club President and said about this event.

“This is our second annual Veterans Day Softball Tournament," he said. "All the proceeds go to daily bags or care packages for our local soldiers that are overseas. We had an individual hitting competition on Saturday and gave out great prizes for that. The Lions are also champions of ‘eye care’, canine companions, and we offer free health fair screenings annually.”
