RENO — University of Nevada seniors Caleb Martin and Cody Martin have been named to the Wooden Award watch list.
The award honors the Division I player of the year. Chosen by a preseason poll of national college basketball experts, the list is comprised of 50 student-athletes who are the early front-runners for the most prestigious honors in college basketball, the Wooden Award All American Team™ and Most Outstanding Player Award.
It is the third watch list for Caleb Martin after being named to the NABC and Naismith Trophy award watch lists on Monday. Both awards also honor the Division I player of the year.
He was also named to the Julius Erving Award watch list which recognizes the top small forward in college basketball. Cody Martin was named to the Bob Cousy Award watch list. The Cousy Award honors the top point guard in college basketball. Both were named to the 2018-19 Mountain West preseason team.
Caleb Martin was named to 2018-19 preseason Associated Press and ESPN All-America teams last week. The reigning Mountain West Player of the Year and 2018-19 preseason MW Player of the Year led the team averaging 18.9 points per game last season.
From the field he shot 45.4 percent and was among the conference leaders making 40.3 percent of his 3-point attempts.
In 33 games he posted double figures and had a streak of 16 consecutive double figure scoring games. In 16 games he led the team in scoring and 14 were game highs. Twice he recorded double-doubles with 18 points and 10 rebounds at Fresno State and vs. Texas in the NCAA Tournament.
Cody Martin was the 2017-18 MW Defensive Player of the Year and a second-team MW selection. A versatile player he averaged 14 points, 4.7 assists, 6.3 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 1.5 blocks per game. His 30 point game at Utah State last season tied for the high-point game by a Pack player.
The twins combined to average 32.9 points per game last, 38.9 percent of the Pack's offensive output.
