The Lowry High School girls JV soccer squad had one final hurrah on Monday night, when they played an all-star team from Winnemucca Junior High School.
Valoree Burke was a fan at the game.
“My daughter (Nichole) plays soccer for the high school," Burke said. "She picked up the game on her own when she was eight.”
WJHS struck first with a goal less than five minutes into the first period, but a see-saw battle ended in a 2-2 tie.
Lowry JV soccer coach Jennifer Partee coached the eighth-grade team.
“We are trying to create some excitement for the incoming eighth-graders and get them interested in our high school program," Partee said. "It is just a fun night to introduce them to high school soccer with a game against the JV’s. Varsity helps coach and referee the game, and they also run the scoreboard.”
The game is a nine-year tradition to allow the upcoming class to play with their new coach and experience high school level play.
LHS varsity coach Ed Partee, coached the JV team.
“We ended up having a combination of sixth, seventh, and eighth-graders and a couple of my varsity players to make a team," added the coach. "It is a good chance to see what we have coming up for future teams and go from there."
