The Winnemucca Events Complex was the site of the 9th annual Western States Ranch Rodeo Association National Finals last weekend.
“I work on a ranch with livestock and I like that we can compete in a Ranch Rodeo using those skills," said competitor Desi Dotson from Paradise Valley. "This event is a good way for Winnemucca to support all of the ranches in our community.”
The four day event was packed -with hundreds of cowboys and cowgirls from western states competing in a multitude of events.
Wild Horse Racing, Sort and Rope Doctoring, Team Roping, Load and Tie, Trailer Loading, Tie-Down Steer Roping, Team Branding, Working Ranch Horse, Steer Stopping, and Ranch Bronc Riding were the challenges they faced.
Eva McMasters was a fan in attendance from Hebner, Ore.
“This is our fourth year here," McMasters said. "I love the excitement of these events and how family oriented it is. These traditional events are teaching kids how to work on a ranch, as opposed to what you see in a normal ‘traditional’ rodeo. We go to Montana and Wyoming and travel as a family, and they are always wonderful to the kids.”
McMasters’ children Maddex and Joe said, “I like the bronc riders and the wild horse races. It challenges you to try and become a champion at something.”
