The Battle Mountain High School volleyball team was looking to have the same success it did against North Tahoe in the regular season just a couple weeks ago.
The Lady Longhorns beat the Lakers in four sets in Tahoe City, Calif., to secure a playoff spot in the Northern 2A Regional Championships.
The two teams met again this past Friday night at White Pine High School in Ely in the opening round of the playoffs with a different outcome. After a close first set that saw North Tahoe win 25-23, the Lakers cruised in the final two sets to win 25-13 and 25-14 to end the Lady Longhorns’ season.
North Tahoe’s year ended a day later with a 25-7, 25-18 and 25-23 loss to Yerington in the regional semifinals. Incline beat host White Pine 25-17, 25-23 and 25-17 in the other semifinal. Yerington beat Incline in three sets to win the regional title. Both squads advanced to the state tournament this weekend in Reno.
