Obituary: Drucella Ann McKinnon

Dec. 16, 1934 - May 16, 2018

Resident of Lovelock, Nevada

Drucella Ann McKinnon passed away on May 16, 2018 in Lovelock Nevada. She was 83. Born in Condon, Oregon on December 16, 1934, she was one of six children born to William Mathew Cooney and Grace Marie (Walker) Cooney. She is preceded in death by her sisters Norberta Mary Farnham and Leona Francis Cannon, and brothers John Charles, William Mathew II, and James Franklin.

When Drucella was 3 years old, the Cooney family moved from the farming community of Condon, Oregon to work in the gold mines on Pueblo Mt., near Denio, NV.

Eventually the Cooney Clan settled in Lovelock and continued mining tungsten, gold, and iron ore. It was said that if you throw a rock in Lovelock, you are bound to hit a Cooney kid. Drucella graduated from Pershing County High School (PCHS) in 1953.

She married David Baxter Millard in 1953. They started a family, living in Porter Springs, Mina, and Lovelock. She married Peter Daniel McKinnon in 1963. Over the years, they lived in Brookings OR., Fernley and Lovelock. She is survived by her children Ramona Marie Mitchell (Azalea, OR), Cynthia Sue Harris (Round Mt. NV), David Wesley McKinnon (Capitola, CA), Daniel Thomas McKinnon (Santa Cruz, CA), Carol Joy Hollingsworth (Sacramento, CA) and her foster son Bill Ennis (Mesquite, NV).  She has 9 grandchildren and 18 great grand children.

Drucella will best be remembered as a woman that enjoyed her family, friends, gardening, and her two dogs Pepper and Boots. She was known as an honest, hard worker with quick Cooney humor and a streak of stubbornness. Over the years, this demeanor served her well as she worked as a server or cook at the Pershing Hotel, Big Meadows Hotel and Restaurant, Brenda’s Cafe, Sturgeon’s Log Cabin, Andy’s Cafe, and Keith’s Model T Cafe. She was proud to be a part of a four generation family to graduate from PCHS (Ramona Mitchell, Lisa Jensen, and Ryann Jensen). Additionally, volunteered the last several years at the Senior Center in Lovelock.

A celebration of life will be scheduled in late June/July. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are welcome in her name to the Pershing County Senior Center, PO Box 838, Lovelock, NV. 89419.
