The Lowry High School softball team was well recognized for its second-place finish in the Northern 3A this season.
The Lady Bucks placed nine of their players on the three respective all-league teams, including four on the first team.
Kyllie Sappington (catcher), Sylvie Prokasky (pitcher), Sydney Connors (shortstop) and Alyssa Kuskie (outfield) were named to the first team.
Sappington batted .466 this season with 54 hits and 39 runs scored. She had a team-high 21 doubles, three home runs and 39 RBI.
Sappington committed just two errors this season as the Lowry catcher.
Connors was first on the team in batting average at .505 to go with 56 hits, which was second most on the team. The junior drove in team-high 57 runs, scored 53 runs and had 12 doubles. She led the Lady Buckaroos with 14 home runs. Lowry had 32 home runs as a team.
Kuskie, a senior, was named to the first team for a second consecutive season. She had a .485 batting average and her 65 hits were the best on the Lady Bucks squad. She scored 52 runs to go with 30 RBI, eight doubles, five triples and two home runs.
Prokasky went 14-5 on the season with a 3.11 ERA. She struck out 59 and walked 34 in 117 innings of work. Prokasky hit. 402 this year with 33 hits, 27 runs scored and 28 RBI. It’s the second straight first-team appearance for Prokasky.
Fernley’s McKenna Montgomery was named the Northern 3A Player of the Year.
The remainder of the first included pitchers Faith Cornmesser (Churchill County and Rilee Nelson (Sparks). Caityln Welch (Churchill County), Kaitlyn Rizo (Elko) and Tamia Powell (Dayton) comprised the infield.
Macie Kirk and Reese Jones (Fernley) and Paige Nelms (Spring Creek) filled out the infield and Dayton’s Julie Rogers was the utility player.
Sappington and Connors were was named to the all-state, first team and were joined by Cornmesser, Welch, Montgomery, Nelms and Jones.
Kuskie and Prokasky were second team choices to the all-state team. That group was rounded out with Nelson, Rogers, Rizo, Powell and Kirk.
The Lady Bucks’ Kelcey Cooper (infield) and Sierra Maestrejuan (utility) were named to the second team. Cooper hit .432 on the season with 48 hits, 49 RBI and 49 runs scored. The sophomore had three home runs, nine doubles and four triples. She was also selected to the second team last year.
Maestrejuan batted .473 with 53 hits, 39 runs scored and 24 RBI. The sophomore added 15 doubles and four home runs.
They were joined on the second team by Fernley’s Skylar Gothan, Lexi Nelson and Natalie Stewart; Dayton’s Caleigh Onstott and Marissa Hein; Elko’s Breanna Whitted and Jacqueline Pete; Spring Creek’s Shawnee Walters-Hass; Churchill County’s Stacy Kalt and Jordan Beyers and Truckee’s Stephanie Randall.
Lowry’s Bailey Sapien, Madi McClellan and Macey Katzenmeyer were named to the honorable mention team.
Sapien batted .308 this season with 32 hits, 30 runs scored, 23 RBI, two doubles and two home runs.
Katzenmeyer, a junior, went 6-3 in the circle for the Lady Bucks. Katzenmeyer had 43 strikeouts and 55 walks. She also batted .409 with nine hits in 22 at bats.
McClellan, a junior as well, batted .371 with 43 hits, 40 RBI and 20 runs scored.
That honorable mention group was comprised of Churchill County’s Macie Anderson, Dayton’s Amanda Woitas, Truckee’s Sierra Bohnet and Hannah Maciel, Sparks’ Nicole Fierro, Akosita TauFa’ao and Myshela Todd, Elko’s Mollie Gallagher and Rylee Ferguson, Fernley’s Hailee Edgar and Aschlynn Roemer, South Tahoe’s Sydney McCarthy, Hailey Naccarato and Josie Anderson and Spring Creek’s Allie Thompson, Jake Conklin and Jaycee Freyensee.
Lowry finished the year at 26-10 overall and were 21-3 in the Northern 3A. The Lady Bucks made their way to the state tournament for the first time since 2012 and lost in the title game to Churchill County.
