Buckaroo boys close out season at state track and field championships

The Lowry High School boys track and field team wrapped up its season last weekend at the NIAA State Track and Field Championships at Carson High School in Carson City.

Sophomores Lalo Aguilar and Colby Terry finished sixth and eighth, respectively, in the pole vault. Aguilar cleared the bar at 11 feet and Terry had a mark of 10-6.

In his final high school races, Erick Lopez finished sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.33 seconds. Western’s Kory Powell-Oliver won the race in a time of 11.06. The entire field of eight runners was decided by .60 seconds.

Lopez finished eighth in the 200 meters with a time of 22.92. Churchill County’s Drake Copley won the race at 22.28.

Sophomore Timur Krapivin was seventh in the 400 meters in a time of 53.07. Cheyenne’s Clifton Johnson (49.82) and Chaparral’s Johnathan Raffta (49.83) were first and second and the only runners below 50 seconds.

Junior Scottie Smith placed seventh in the high jump, clearing the bar at 5-8. Mojave’s Jon Harper won the state championship with a jump of 6-6.

The 4x800 relay of Sam Roth, Hunter Albisu, Brandon Lee and Will Kracaw were sixth in a time of 8 minutes, 33.70 seconds.

The 4x200 relay of Jace Mentaberry, Jacob Frazier, Krapivin and Lopez were eighth in a time of 1:38.54.

The Lowry boys were 14th team in the team standings with 15.50 points. Mojave won the team title with 110 points and Desert Pines (100) was second.
