Kyle B Swanson defended Travis Clayton Nichols.
On April 23 at Nichol's probation violation hearing, Swanson asked the court to place his client in New Frontier (NF). He's explored further aftercare with Nichols.
"I contacted NF this morning," said Swanson. "They could not give me a bed date yet. They said they were full, but that changes on a daily basis."
The judge authorized Officer Markus Heimbruch to release Nichols from jail when a bed becomes available at NF.
Public Defender Steve Cochran represented Doniese Jorene Allen, 25.
On April 23, 2018, Allen admitted to violating her probation.
"Since we were last in court, the Pershing County Drug Court accepted Miss Allen," said Cochran. "She also has secure employment. I would like to continue with her reinstatement back on probation."
DDA Jack Bullock agreed.
The judge reinstated Allen's probation with the added condition that she complete drug court.
"The graciousness of the state centers on what a nice person you are and the recognition that substance abuse is an addiction," Judge Shirley told the young mother of three. "Keep your nose clean and don't come back."
Jose Luis Valtierra came to court for a fee review hearing. He explained that he's fallen $238 behind on his payments due to unemployment. Probationers must pay $30 a month to cover the costs of their supervision.
"I've been doing odd jobs here and there," said Valtierra. "I've also been doing community service over at the senior center."
"You're complying with the term and condition that if you don't have full-time employment you have to do community service," observed the judge. Officer Markus Heimbruch said Valtierra has been doing well since released from custody.
The court set up a payment schedule. They'll review Valtierra's compliance in 90 days.
Sheriff's officers brought Landon Ray Ruiz to the 11th Judicial for a probation violation hearing. Steve Evenson represents Ruiz. The judge continued disposition on one of Ruiz's cases. He set the other two for pretrial conferences.
Sheriff's officers brought Douglas Charles Anderson to court for a continued arraignment hearing. He faces charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a controlled substance and the unlawful possession of a hypodermic device.
Public Defender Steve Cochran represents Anderson. But the defendant wants to represent himself.
DDA Jack Bullock asked the judge to oppose the motion.
"Mr. Anderson does not have the education or experience," he said. The judge continued the case and remanded the defendant to the custody of the Pershing County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff's officers brought Vincent John Vizgaudis, 32, to court for arraignment. He pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance, heroin. The court sentences him on July 2, 2018.
