The Lowry High School swim team will take a handful of swimmers to the NIAA 3A State Championships on Saturday in Las Vegas.
The Buckaroos’ Hunter Lewis and Nathan Perkinson finished in the top three in the 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard breaststroke, respectively, at the regional meet this past weekend to qualify for the state championships.
Lewis placed second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1 minute, 5.59 seconds. Truckee freshman Kaikea Crews won the race with an impressive time of 50.71.
Perkinson picked up a third-place outing in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:07.17. He beat out the fourth-place finisher by nearly four seconds to earn his spot at state. North Tahoe’s Hunter Hoffman won the race with a time of 1:04.78.
Perkinson also finished fifth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 55.72. He was a second and half behind Churchill County’s Christian Nemeth.
The Lowry boys 200-yard medley relay of Lewis, Perkinson, Tristan Miller and Evan Jeppsen were third with a time of 1:58.86 and qualified for the state championships. They had a six-second cushion over fourth-place Sage Ridge.
The same foursome placed third in the 400-yard freestyle with a time of 4:10.72 to earn a trip to Las Vegas. They beat Fernley by nine seconds to secure their spot.
The Lowry boys were third out of nine teams with 176 points. Truckee won the regional championship with 501 points and Churchill County was second at 216.
The Lowry girls finished fifth with 153 points, while Truckee cruised to the regional title with 522 points. South Tahoe (234) was second and Churchill County (208) was third.
Freshman Casalyn Perkinson was the highest finishing Lowry girl, placing fourth in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:58.61.
