Another season of high school sports concludes this weekend with state championships scattered throughout Nevada.
The Lowry High School softball team rallied from a four-run deficit in an elimination game on Friday afternoon to score five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Dayton 5-4. The Lady Bucks were down to their final strike on three different batters in the seventh inning.
Lowry came back Saturday morning to beat defending state champion Fernley 6-4 and advance to the state championships for the first time since 2012.
The Lady Bucks eventually lost the regional title game to Churchill County.
Lowry will take on Boulder City at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday at Reno High School. Churchill County will take on Pahrump Valley at 2 p.m. The winners play at 2:30 p.m. on Friday and the losers take to the field at noon.
A second elimination game will start at 5 p.m. on Friday. The state championship is set for 10 a.m. on Saturday.
The NIAA 3A State Championships have been moved to McQueen and Galena high schools in Reno. On Thursday at McQueen, Elko, the Northern 3A champion, will play Pahrump Valley at 4 p.m. Boulder City, the Southern 3A title winner, plays Truckee at 1 p.m.
The tournament moves to Galena on Friday, where the winners play at 1 p.m.
The loser’s bracket match-up is set for 10 a.m. on Friday, with another elimination game at 4 p.m. on Friday. The state championship moves back to McQueen on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Pershing County softball heads to state
The Pershing County High School softball team is headed back to the state tournament after picking up two wins in the Northern 2A Regional Championships in Battle Mountain this past weekend.
The Lady Mustangs prevented an upset and beat No. 4 seed Yerington 12-11 in the opening round on Friday. Pershing County clinched a bid to state with an 8-6 win over White Pine.
However, the Lady Cats came through the loser’s bracket and beat Pershing County twice to win the regional title.
Pershing County will take on Southern 2A champion Needles, Calif., at 2 p.m. at Reed High School in Sparks. White Pine and Laughlin meet at 4:30 p.m.
The two winners play on Friday at 2:30 p.m., while the loser’s play at noon. A second elimination contest is set for 5 p.m. om Friday. The state championship is set for 10 a.m. on Saturday.
The NIAA 2A State Baseball Championships is also at Reed High School. Lincoln County and North Tahoe play at 4 p.m. on Thursday and Yerington plays Lake Mead at 7 p.m.
The two winners play at 4 p.m. on Friday and the loser’s play at 1 p.m. The second elimination game is Friday at 7 p.m. The championship is set for 10 a.m. on Saturday.
State track and field set for Carson City
The NIAA 1A/2A/3A/4A State Track and Field Championships will take place Friday and Saturday at Carson High School in Carson City. Lowry, Battle Mountain and Pershing County all have athletes competing.
The meet starts at 3 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. on Saturday. A complete list of times, events and lane assignments can be found at www.niaa.com.
Lowry swimmers head to Las Vegas
A handful of Lowry swimmers will be headed to Las Vegas on Saturday for the NIAA 3A State Swimming championships. Hunter Lewis and Nathan Perkinson qualified as individuals. The boys 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard relay also qualified.

Battle Mountain’s Alex Lopez and Jimmy Harris qualified as individuals for the NIAA 2A State Boys Golf Championship on Wednesday and Thursday in Boulder City.
