RENO — Nevada women's basketball coach Amanda Levens has announced the addition of Mikayla Christian, a transfer from TCU.
Christian will join the program this summer and have two years of eligibility remaining starting with the 2019-20 season.
"Mikayla is a great addition to our 2018 recruiting class," said Levens. "She is a versatile perimeter player who comes to us from a strong program at TCU. We are excited to have a redshirt season to continue to develop Mikayla on and off the court. Wolf Pack fans are going to enjoy watching her play!"
Christian, a native of Round Rock, Texas, spent the last two years with the Horned Frogs and saw time in 37 games between her freshman and sophomore seasons. In those two seasons she averaged 1.8 points per game and connected on 36.1 percent of her shots, mostly from three-point range. The 5-9 guard was named Big 12 Freshman of the Week in 2016 after pouring in 19 points against Alcorn State, which included five triples.
Coming out of high school, where she played her last two years at Vista Ridge in Cedar Park, Texas, Christian was ranked a four-star prospect by Prospects Nation and had a three-star rating by ESPN, which also ranked her No. 22 nationally at her position.
Christian accrued a plethora of accolades during her high school years including two TABC and TGCA Class 5A All-State first team selections, she earned TABC 5A Region IV All-Region first team honors twice and was a four-time Class 25-5A All-District honoree. Additionally she earned District 25-5A MVP honors her senior year and was an Austin American-Statesman All-Central Texas first team selection as a senior and a third team selection her junior year.
From a team perspective, Christian helped Vista Ridge to a 68-10 record in her two seasons and back-to-back Class 5A state semifinal appearances.
During her final season, Vista Ridge was ranked No. 5 in the TABC and garnered a top 50 national ranking her junior year. She led her team in both assists and points per game (14.5) her final season.
