Battle Mountain golfers finish regular season in Lake Tahoe

The Battle Mountain High School boys golf team closed out the regular season this past Thursday at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Stateline.

The challenging course made for higher scorers as golfers in the field struggled on the day.

Battle Mountain shot 451 on the day, as Brody Young led the Longhorns with a 102. Alex Lopez carded a 105 and Jimmy Harris shot a 109. Jake Smith (135) and Bradley Rogers (160) rounded out the scores for Battle Mountain.

“What a beautiful day on a beautiful golf course,” said BMHS coach Roger Wallock. “However, we struggled on the tough layout and multiple sand traps. We just don’t play course during the season that prepare us for a tough course like Edgewood. Hopefully, we can regroup and play well at zone.”

The Northern 2A Regional Championship was played on Tuesday at Toiyabe Golf Club in Washoe Valley. Results were not available at press time.

The top three teams from the regional championships and top five individuals on non-qualifying teams advance to the state championships.

The NIAA 2A State Championships is set May 16-17 at Boulder Municipal Golf Club in Boulder City.
